The Laurentian Voyageurs women's soccer team returned home for a Saturday showdown against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Despite a composed second half and some late pushes towards the goal, the Vees fell 2-0 after an early burst from Toronto.
The Varsity Blues came off the bus ready to pounce, scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes. After being challenged with quick ball movement and sharp finishes, the Voyageurs steadied themselves. Keeper Noémie Bouchard turned away several strong attacks before halftime to keep the game within reach. Her poise in net and a mended backline helped slow their opponent through the middle stages.
As the match progressed, the Vees found a rhythm for themselves. Kayla Wicks gave the team a much-needed boost with her steady outlet through the middle, while Gracie Sowers worked tirelessly to keep pushing and connecting in transition. Late in the second half, Esmerelda Torres nearly cut the deficit in half with a strong shot that was placed slightly too high, capping off a strong comeback effort from the club.
Although the scoreboard didn't reflect the effort, Laurentian's response after a bumpy beginning demonstrated composure and resilience for the young squad. With the season nearing its close, LU looks to find its first win versus Trent to close off the weekend.
