On a sunny Sudbury Saturday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the visiting Toronto Metropolitan Bold in their season opening game.

The first half was a battle, with both teams levying some hard, clean tackles.  In a game that was predominantly played in the middle portion of the pitch, there were some quality chances each way.  Midway through the half, Hunter Jones timed her jump right and was able to get her hand to a great Bold strike, parrying the ball past the post.  A few minutes later, Caitlyne Kervin was in alone on the Bold keeper but took one touch too many, allowing the goalie, Abby Harrison, to smother the ball.

Coming out in the second half, the Voyageurs had a lot of jump, keeping the pressure on the Bold back line.  That pressure paid off in the 58th minute when Kervin was taken down in the box and the referee pointed to the the penalty spot.  Kervin stepped up and made no mistake, slotting the ball in the bottom left corner past an outstretched Harrison.  The leave would be short-lived, however, as Taliyah Walker came on in the 69th minute and had an immediate impact.  Less than a minute after coming in, she found herself at the end of a great cross and volley the ball past Jones and just six minutes later, Walker struck again, ripping a shot past the outstretched hands of Jones to give the Bold a 2-1 lead.

Despite some late pressure, the Voyageurs could not muster an equalizer and fell 2-1.  The women hit the road next weekend when they visit Ontario Tech and Trent.
