WSOC | Voyageurs Win Fifth Straight, Down Rival

WSOC | Voyageurs Win Fifth Straight, Down Rival

Wednesday night served as the 3rd leg of the Riley Gallo Cup and a critical game for the Voyageurs women's soccer team in the OUA East standings.  Despite being outshot by their rival, the Nipissing Lakers, the Voyageurs prevailed with a 1-0 victory.

The first half was a back and forth affair, with each team firing three shots on target.  The highlight of the opening 45 minutes was Caitlin McNamara stopping the Lakers' Delaney Borsato on a penalty kick late in the half.

The second half began much the same way as the first, with back and forth action, until an opportunity presented itself to Sarah Sanford in the 66th minute.  The fourth year striker made no mistake with the chance to give the Voyageurs a 1-0 lead and now sits tied for third in the OUA in scoring with five goals on the year.  The Lakers upped their pressure following the goal but McNamara shut the door to preserve the victory with her fourth shutout of the season.

McNamara now sits second in the OUA with a .907 save percentage and fourth in the province with a 0.73 GAA.

The Voyageurs now prepare to host Ottawa on Saturday and Carleton on Sunday as they look to push their win streak to seven.  Kick-off is scheduled for 12pm on both days.
