WSOC | Voyageurs Shut Down by Ridgebacks

WSOC | Voyageurs Shut Down by Ridgebacks

A spirited, gutsy, hard-fought performance was not enough for the Voyageurs on Sunday afternoon as they dropped a close encounter against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks by a score of 1-0.

Laurentian's defence was spectacular in the first half, turning away eleven shots on goal to keep the match scoreless. But, to their dismay, they only recorded one shot on goal themselves which was turned aside and neither side was able to break the deadlock. The first half then came to an end with the scores all level at 0-0.

The second half started with increased offensive pressure from the Ridgebacks. Heather McGregor made a stellar save in the 51st minute to deny the Ridgebacks the opening goal of the match. However, just two minutes later, the Ridgebacks got the break they were looking for when Melanie Hoekstra found the back of the net with an assist from Taijah Henderson at the 52:31 minute mark of the match. Following the goal, the Voyageurs managed to create a few good goal-scoring oppurtuities but were unable to convert. Finally, this score line would hold for the rest of the match and the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks came out victorious with a one goal margin.

The Voyageurs are now officially out of playoff contention and will now travel home to start the last weekend of the regular season. They play the Queen's Gaels next on October 19 at 12 pm.
