XC and Rowing Gear Up for OUA Championships

A quartet of Voyageurs teams are off to the OUA Championships this weekend as the Voyageurs Rowing teams head to St. Catharines while the Voyageurs Cross-Country teams head to London, ON.

On the water, Hayley Chase and Charles Alexander both claimed bronze medals in their respective singles at the Championships a year ago.  This season, Chase enters the regatta coming off of a silver and golad medal finish at Trent and Brock, respectively, while Alexander earned silver at both races. Chase is Laurentian’s lone female rower taking part in the championship, while Alexander will be joined by Adam Arthurs on the men’s side.

Back on solid ground, the Voyageurs, who enter the Championships as the reigning fifth-place finishers on the women’s side and eighth-place for the men, will be looking to move up the rankings and push for a spot on the podium. The women will be led by Jenny Bottomley, who finished fourth at Geneseo, while also turning in a top-20 performance at the Marauder Bayfront Open.  The men will be led by Paul Sagriff, who won at Geneseo and turned in a top-10 finish at the Marauder Bayfront Open.

The rowers get started Friday as they will race their heats, looking to qualify for the finals on Saturday.  The runners hit the ground running on Saturday morning with the women starting at 11am and the men going at 12pm.
