The Voyageurs traveled to Oshawa on Thursday to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. The Voyageurs ended up taking the victory in their first regular season game, 83-43.
The Vees opened up the scoring with a layup from Lauren Robertson-Martin, followed by a 3-point shot from Claudia Pellerin. Emilie Lafond and Aneisha Rismond and contributed to the score, giving the Voyageurs a 20-9 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Rileigh Smith opened up scoring with two free throws, followed by Molly Adams and Audrey-Anne Labreche making a combination of 5 points. The Voyageurs added another 19 points to close out the first half, keeping their lead 50-21.
The women added 16 more points on their side of the scoreboard in the third quarter, while the Ridgebacks added 12 points, giving the Voyageurs a 33-point margin.
In the last ten minutes, Amber May made a jump shot, followed by a 3-point shot by Megan Axiak. Rismond and Adams also contributed to the score. The Voyageurs took the win 83-43 to start off the regular season.
The standout performers were Megan Axiak with 12 points, Amber May with 11 points and 4 steals, and Rileigh Smith with 16 rebounds.
The Voyageurs are back in action tomorrow night, as they face the Queen's Gaels at 6pm.
