After having their losing streak extended to 4 games at the hands of the Laurier Golden Hawks last weekend the Laurentian Voyageurs Women's basketball team looked to reverse their recent slump as they made their way to Toronto to take on the York Lions.

The Lions have begun their season with an even 2-2 record and on their end going into the game looking to begin to make a move towards the top of the OUA Central division.

With both teams looking to pick up what could be a key win the Lions got off to a hot start starting the game on a 7-0 run. From there though the Vees settled in and would limit first quarter damage with the Lions being up just 15-12 at the end of 1.

The second quarter seemed to turn the tides as Laurentian continued to build off a solid end to the first quarter into the second. Led by 8 points in the quarter by Emilie Lafond, Laurentian would score 22 points on 58% shooting to go into the halftime break up 34-28.

The third quarter would be more of the same as the Vees defense took center stage. The Lions would shoot just 15% from the field in the third quarter and went 0-6 from long range being held to just 7 third quarter points. The other major story from the third was freshmen Cadence Pecore who would pick up 11 of her team high 23 points in the third as the Voyageurs would extend their lead to 53-35.

In the fourth quarter York began to mount a comeback, as they would cut the lead to 5 points with just over a minute to go. Laurentian's offense struggled in the fourth but it would be Pecore who would come up with a clutch dagger three point make to put the game to bed and give the Voyageurs a much needed second win of the season defeating the Lions 68-59.

Laurentian improves to 2-4 on the season and will wrap up their GTA road trip in Hamilton Saturday night as they take on the McMaster Marauders at 6pm.
