The Laurentian women's basketball team began their final road trip of the regular season with a loss to #2 ranked Carleton by a score of 62-44

Laurentian began the game quite cold from the field, not getting on the board until the 6-minute mark. From there the Voyageurs had to battle for every inch as they struggled to get any momentum in the first. They also got into early foul trouble allowing the Ravens to go 8-10 in the first from the free throw line, which ended up being the difference as the first ended with a 5 point Carleton lead 17-12.

The second saw Laurentian clean up the fouls and with it saw a change in fortune. The lesser free throws allowed the game to flow more, which worked in the Voyageurs favour. The points were spread around between seven different players in the quarter as Laurentian closed the gap down to three at half.

The second half showed those in attendance why the Ravens are one of the best in the country. Although both teams shot poorly in the third, it was the Carleton defense that really stood out at the start of the second half. Laurentian was held to three total points in the third on just 7% shooting from the field and were forced into six turnovers. Carleton managed to scrape out 16 points of their own and, just like that, the lead was extended to 16 going into the fourth quarter.

To their credit, Laurentian never looked demoralized or brought down as they continued to fight with arguably the best team in the country. In the end though, there was just too much organization and quality from the Voyageurs opponent on the day as the game finished with Carleton on top 62-44. Laurentian just could not find a second half run of points to put them back in contention for an upset.

The Voyageurs standout performers included 12 points and nine rebounds from Héléna Lamoureux and eight points on 60% shooting off the bench from Rileigh Smith.

The Voyageurs round out their weekend with an early game at Ottawa to face the Gee-Gees at 4 o'clock at Montpetit Hall on Saturday.
