WBB - Laurentian drops last game of the weekend to Warriors

The women's basketball team played the Waterloo Warriors in their last game of an away weekend on Saturday afternoon. The Voyageurs lost the game 62-39, making it their second loss of the weekend.

In the first quarter, the Voyageurs were scoreless for the first seven minutes, until Aneisha Rismond netted two free throws, twice. A few minutes later, Rismond scored a jump shot, and Melanie Cloutier scored two points. The Vees were trailing the Warriors 12-10 going into the next quarter.

The Warriors put 6 points on the board in the first two minutes, while Rismond made two more free throws. The Voyageurs only scored two points in the second quarter, while the Warriors scored 16 points, extending their lead 28-12.

After the half, the Voyageurs came out strong, with two 3-point shots from Megan Axiak. Melanie Cloutier made two free throws and Claudia Pellerin made her first 3 point shot of the game. Laurentian was still trailing the Warriors 45-24 going into the last quarter.

In the last ten minutes, both teams were scoreless for the first minute. At the seventh minute mark, Molly Adams made a 3-point shot, while Axiak scored her third 3 pointer of the game. Adams, Pellerin and Rismond scored a combination of 9 points to end the game. The Voyageurs dropped the game 62-39 to end the weekend road trip.

The standout performers were Aneisha Rismond with 11 points and 8 rebounds, Megan Axiak with 10 points and Claudia Pellerin with 8 points.

The Voyageurs are back in action in the Ben Avery on Friday, November 24th, as they host the Carleton Ravens. Tip off is set for 6pm.
