WBB | Voyageurs Fall to Defending National Champions

The defending Ontario and Canadian champions, the McMaster Marauders proved to be too much for the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday evening as they dropped the encounter 70-57. 

The Voyageurs started strong, taking an early 10-2 lead. But then, the Marauders made their charge and ended the quarter with a six point lead while shooting 30.4% from the field and restricting the Voyageurs to just 23.5% shooting. But, the Voyageurs turned a much better performance in the second quarter. Both teams scored the same amount of points even though the Marauders had a better shooting percentage with 28.6% compared to the Voyageurs' 21.1%. At the conclusion of the first half, the Voyageurs were down by just six points as the score line read 28-22. 

The Voyageurs once again started the third quarter on a positive note. They went on an early 7-0 run via the efforts of Bailey Tabin who scored all seven points in back-to-back-to-back possessions which included a superb three pointer with just mere seconds to go on the shot clock. This eventually turned into  a 13-6 run but the Marauders the exerted their championship might and increased their offensive intensity. Thusly, they not only managed to control the Voyageur offensive but also scored 28 of their own to stretch the lead to 12 points at the quarter's end. Christina Buttenham led the way for the Marauders with 10 points, followed by Olivia Wilson with eight points. The Voyageurs were led by Bailey Tabin with nine points and Kayla Deschatelets with five points. Even though they shot 50.0% from the field in the third quarter and outscored the Marauders 19-14 in the fourth, they were unable to catch up and eventually fell by a score of 70-57. 

The Voyageurs will be right back at it tomorrow when they take on the nationally ranked 10th Brock Badgers at Ben Avery Gymnasium at 6 pm.
