The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team ended their first road trip of the season on Friday with a game against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in which they came out victorious 71-68, holding on to pick up their first win of the season and head back to Sudbury in good spirits.

The game started off slow for the Vees, being outscored 21-10 in the first quarter shooting just 23% from the field and giving the Ridgebacks easy baskets and being slow to react on the ball.  From there, however, the Voyageurs mounted their comeback. Their defense came up big in the second quarter to limit the damage, forcing lots of empty possessions for the Ridgebacks and they went into the half-time break down just one at 30-29.

In the third quarter the Ridgebacks once more stretched out a hefty lead, at one point going on an 18-8 run. However, with one minute left in the third quarter and down 51-41, Audrey-Anne Labreche hit a huge three pointer to cut the lead to six before finishing the quarter down just three heading into the final ten minutes. In the fourth Héléna Lamoureux took over, scoring 15 of her game high 27 points, scoring with ease in the paint and adding a three pointer as well to lead her team to their first win of the season, 71-68, ending off an extremely entertaining game with a massive win and going back to Sudbury with a split on the road trip.  Bailey Tabin turned in her second double-double in as many nights, scoring 20 points while grabbing 13 rebounds.

The Voyageurs come back home next weekend with their home opener against the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Ben Avery Gym on Friday November 11th.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
