WBB | A Gutsy Effort Went in Vain for the Voyageurs Against the Golden Hawks

A strong third quarter from the Golden Hawks led them to a close victory against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night.

It was a back and forth affair throughout the whole match. The Golden Hawks won the first quarter by just two points as they outscored the Voyageurs 17-15 but the Voyageurs came roaring back in the second, outscoring the Golden Hawks 14-10 and finished the first half with a two point lead. Bailey Tabin had an exemplary performance in the half as she scored 12 of the Voyageurs' 29 points. She was followed suite by Kayla Deschatelets. On the other hand, Brianna Iannazzo was the leading scorer for the Golden Hawks with nine points and she was followed suite by Kate Moran with five points.

But unfortunately for the Voyageurs, the Golden Hawks posted a strong third quarter as they held the Vees to just 8 points. The Golden Hawks scored 17 points in the quarter and took an even point lead going into the fourth quarter as the scoreline read 44-37.

But to the Voyageurs' credit, they made a valiant comeback in the fourth. With efforts from Kayla Deschatelets and three point buckets from Arielle Douillette and Danielle Reid respectively, the Voyageurs took a one point lead in the 7:41 minute mark of the quarter. They eventually pushed this lead to a three point lead when Bailey Tabin scored a layup with 6:27 left in the match. However, Brianna Iannazzo tied the match with a three point bucket in the next Golden Hawks' possession and they would not look back after this bucket. They eventually took the lead and regardless of the Voyageurs' efforts; who came within three points twice down the stretch, were unable to tie the game or come out victorious. In the end, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks emerged victorious with a 65-57 win.

The Voyageurs will now travel back home and host the McMaster Marauders on November 22 at Ben Avery Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 pm.
