WBB | Voyageurs Dominate the Glass in Win Over Lakers

A dominant performance on the glass by the Voyageurs resulted in a 65-57 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Thursday night. Laurentian grabbed 63 rebounds to the Lakers 40 which was a key factor to their victory.

The Voyageurs got out to a fast start in the first with Mali Straker going perfect from three in the quarter leading to 21–16 going into the second. The Voyageurs continued their great play in the second. The team passing and ball movement was leading to easy baskets, with the team racking up 7 team assists in the second quarter alone en route to another 21-16 quarter score line.

Laurentian had a comfortable 10-point lead going into the second half, however, the Voyageurs squandered the lead in the third due to a combination of sloppy play and a much more aggressive Lakers squad that saw them get to the free throw line six more times than the Voyageurs. Those bonus trips paced the Lakers' offence, scoring 21 points to the Voyageurs 11, tying the game up heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, the Voyageurs put the clamps on the Lakers defensively, allowing Nipissing to score only four points in the quarter and forcing five turnovers.  The Voyageurs tallied 12 in the quarter to earn the hard fought 65-57 win.

The Tabin sisters each recorded a double-double with Sydney going for 17 and 10 while Bailey went for 13 and 13.  Héléna Lamoureux and Aneisha Rismond also reached double digit rebounds, grabbing 13 and 10 boards, respectively.

The Voyageurs record improves to 5-4 and they play the Lakers again on the 19th at Nipissing.
