WBB | Voyageurs Blown Out by Gryphons

The Voyageurs were in tough against the Guelph Gryphons on Senior's night as they came out on the losing end by a score of 88-58. 

 

Both teams went back-and-forth in the first quarter with seven lead changes in the first four minutes. But after Reece Mungar drained a three-point in the 4:51 minute mark, the Gryphons started a 12-0 run that resulted in them taking an 11 point lead. This run was broken by Sidney Crawford's free throw. When all things were said and done, the Gryphons ended the quarter in lead with a score of 21-13. They shot 50.0% from the field and were led by Skyla Minaker with nine points and Burke Bechard with four points. Conversely, the Voyageurs shot 23.5% from the field and were led by Héléna Lamoureaux with five points and Arielle Douillette with three points.

 

The second quarter was much more of the same that of the first as the Gryphons continued to extend their lead. They shot an impressive 56.3% from the field meanwhile restricting the Voyageurs to just 37.5% shooting. Outstanding players from the Gryphons included Mungar with nine points in the quarter and Modupe Okeowo with five points. The Voyageurs were led by Lamoureaux with six points and Bailey Tabin and Douillette with three points each. 

 

The second half did not fare any better for the Voyageurs as they continued to fall behind the Gryphons. The Voyageurs were outscored 19-15 in the third quarter and 22-16 in the fourth quarter. The Gryphons shot 52.9% from the field whereas the Voyageurs shot 31.3% from the field in the third quarter. Sarah Holmes with five points and three other players with three points each were the leading scorers in the third quarter for Gryphons. Meanwhile, Lamoureaux and Tabin led the way for the Voyageurs with seven and four points respectively. The Gryphons had their best shooting quarter in the fourth as they shot 60.0% from the field whereas the Voyageurs shot 37.5%. MacKeely Shantz, Holmes and Mungar were the leading scorers for the Gryphons with five points each and were followed by Ashley Weever with four points. On the other hand, Tabin led the way for the Voyageurs with right points and was followed suite by Lamoureaux and Douillette with three points each. When the dust was settled, the Voyageurs lost by a score of 88-58. 

 

After the match, ceremonies were held to honour the graduating seniors Kayla Deschatelets and Danielle Reid

 

The Voyageurs finish their home regular season and will now travel to Kingston to take on the Queen's Gaels on February 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm at Athletics and Recreation Centre.
