WBB | Voyageurs Lose Heartbreaker in Fourth
The Voyageurs women's basketball team
After a Golden Hawk three pointer a minute into the game, the Voyageurs proceeded to drain 12 unanswered points to get themselves off to an early lead. First-year forward, Bailey Tabin got the Voyageurs on the board with some dominating inside play and her first of a team-high 20 points to start the rally. The two teams traded buckets after that and headed to the second with the Voyageurs up 22-16.
The Voyageurs got on the board early in the second, increasing their lead to 12 just three minutes into the quarter. Led by the games high-scroer, Nicole Morrison, the Golden Hawks chipped away at the lead, going on a run of their own getting within one point of the lead with just 35 seconds remaining in the quarter. However, two steals from the Voyageurs' Kayla Deschatelets ended up in two made layups by the guard and a Voyageurs lead of seven heading into the half.
After a Mackenzie Robinson bucket from beyond the arc to start the third quarter, teams traded buckets for the next nine minutes, while the Voyageurs maintained a ten point lead throughout the third. An Emily Tinnes three-pointer with 41 seconds left in the quarter kept the lead at ten for the Voyageurs, sending each team into the final quarter with the Voyageurs up 67-57.
The Golden Hawks and Voyageurs' Andrea Zulich traded three's early in the fourth but that would be most of the scoring for Laurentian in the quarter as Laurier capitalized on untimely turnovers, outscoring the Voyageurs 24-8 and ending the game with an 81-75 victory.
Tabin (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Robinson (17 points, 12 rebounds) both collected their first double-doubles of the season in the loss.
The Voyageurs are back in action Friday night when they travel to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves, tip-off set for 6pm.
