WBB \ Voyageurs Earn Preseason Split in North Bay

With a new OUA basketball season right around the corner, the Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team continued their preseason in North Bay with games against the Nipissing Lakers and the Lambton College Lions.
The Voyageurs began their weekend against the Lakers on Friday night in a prelude to their home and home series in the regular season. With the ultimate goal of preseason being the ability to gain valuable game minutes, Laurentian was also looking to kick start their season with some key victories in the lead up to the regular season. After a tightly contested first quarter that saw Laurentian show some promising signs, the second quarter was an outburst of offense from Nipissing as at half the Lakers lead had extended itself to 23. It was always going to be difficult to overcome such a major deficit in the second half and in the end, the final score read 80-50 in favour of the home side.
The next day saw the Voyageurs face off against the Lambton Lions with a chance to redeem themselves of a tough first game of the weekend. After a fairly even first quarter that had the Voyageurs ahead 17-11, their offense came alive in the middle two quarters, outscoring the Lions 22-7 in the second quarter and 27-7 in the third quarter to open up a healthy 41-point lead at 66-25. Laurentian would keep the game out of reach in the fourth and win it by a score of 88-41. Standout performers on the day included 16 points from fourth year Emilie Lafond and 17 points from freshmen Cadence Pecore.
The Voyageurs will continue their preseason in Calgary the weekend of October 11-13 facing off against the Mont Royal Cougars and Calgary Dinos.
