WBB | Voyageurs Down #8 Ravens in First Game of 2022

WBB | Voyageurs Down #8 Ravens in First Game of 2022

The Voyageurs women's basketball team finally got the 2022 portion of their schedule underway on Friday and did so in dramatic fashion, down the Carleton Ravens 61-59 with a last-second layup.

The Ravens got off to a very hot start in the first, draining threes, and were playing a high tempo offense which resulted in them being up by nine after the first quarter. The Voyageurs seemed to wake up in the second quarter and started chipping away at the Ravens lead with Arielle Douillette hitting two massive 3 pointers to give the Voyageurs some momentum going into the half.

In the third the Voyageurs ramped up their defense and came out of the break firing on all cylinders. The Voyageurs held the ravens to only 8 points in the quarter and, thanks to Sydney Tabin's six points, the team had gained a 4 point lead heading into the fourth.

The fourth had the intensity of a playoff game with both teams focusing heavily on defense and shutting down their opponent. It was back and forth all the way down to the wire with the Ravens tying the game up 59-59 14 seconds left. With 1 second left in game Héléna Lamoureux scored a layup to win the game for Voyageurs 61-59.  Lamoureux had a team high 19 points in the victory over the #8 Ravens while the Tabin sisters each turned in 12 point double-doubles with Sydney grabbing 11 rebounds while Bailey ripped down an impressive 16 boards.

The Voyageurs record improved to 4-3 and play the Ravens again on February 12th as they go for the weekend sweep.
