Friday night saw the Laurentian Voyageurs Women's basketball team host the Laurier Golden Hawks in what would be the Vees lone game of the weekend.

Off the back of 2 losses last weekend at the hands of the Guelph Gryphons and Brock Badgers the Voyageurs were looking to turn their fortunes around against a Golden Hawks team that has begun their season 0-4.

In the first quarter the game was fairly even with both teams starting the game at a similar pace. Over the course of the first, the lead would change hands a total of 5 times before a late surge from Laurier was enough to give them a 17-12 lead after one.

The second quarter was one to forget for the hometown Voyageurs as it would begin with a 12-2 Golden Hawks run. A combination of missed opportunities and being outrebounded 11-7 in the quarter led to Laurier extending their lead to 15 going into halftime.

The second half started much better for Laurentian. Backboned by their stellar third quarter defense that held the Golden Hawks to just 28% shooting and 0-4 from three point range, Laurentian was able to cut down the lead to 53-42 going into the final quarter.

In the end though it was a case of too little too late as although Laurentian was able to get as close as a 5 point gap they could not get any closer with Laurier able to keep them at bay for the rest of the game meaning Laurentian's late game push was not enough. The final score would read 73-63 with the visitors coming out on top.

The Vees standout performer was Emilie Lafond who picked up 22 points and 9 rebounds while also shooting a very formidable 10-11 from the free throw line.

Next weekend the Voyageurs make a trip to GTA with games against the York Lions and Mcmaster Marauders set for Friday and Saturday night respectfully. Both games are set to tip-off at 6pm eastern time.
